Snake Rescue

This is why it’s so important to clean up debris you find outside. This deer fencing probably blew out of someone’s yard in a storm and ended up in a creek by the Potomac. The garter snake inside was so ensnared that the fencing was cutting through his scales in several places.

It took about 30 minutes to fully cut him out of the nylon mesh. We’re keeping him until his wounds heal since they may become infected.

  1. What nice surprise! I just got done reading “Containment” and looked up the author. I found this blog post and am thrilled to see Mr. Cantrell is also a wildlife sympathizer.
Coincidentally, I am the President of the Virginia Herpetological Society and I am happy to see the snake was rescued. We’ve run into this situation quite a few times and this deer netting is really inhumane stuff, I’d say worse than glue traps.
Thanks, and another $0.99 is coming your way soon!
